Customer Reviews
Customer rating is 2 of 5  included batteries arrived doa   2010-08-31
By wavcatcher
I bought this unit over a different product because it had batteries included Unfortunately some of the batteries arrived unable to be charged by the charger. The reason being if a rechargeable battery drops below .9volt then this charger can't sense it to begin charging it.

I contacted Lacrosse tech support which requires you to first wait on hold, then finally give the "agent" your phone and email for a tech to contact you at their convenience. The Tech's email response was what I mentioned above. My reply was that I shouldn't have to buy another charger to charge the batteries to work with the charger I just bought from them! I never got a response to this reply for nearly 2 weeks.

I finally called customer support and requested to talk to someone verbally that day. They re-iterated that the batteries weren't defective but just couldn't be sensed by the charger if they were under .9volts. They did however offer to send 2 replacement AA batteries though which is why I kept the unit and didn't return it.

So, in the end it appears LaCrosse is trying to resolve the problem. But BUYER BEWARE. If your rechargeables are under .9v then you must use a different charger to charge them to that voltage before this charger can "sense" the battery and charge it fully.

Had I known this, I would have bought a different product.

Don't really know why reviews for a battery charger have to be so long. It does its job. Easy to understand how it works, seems well made, was sold at a fair price.

Well, based on the reviews, I really wanted a good battery charger as my old one was just not charging fast or well enough. This charger is great as it has different settings and tells you how much charge is going in. It also allows you to discharge and recharge to rejuvenate batteries. I haven't done this, but I expect the same results. It's a little confusing as the directions aren't for the non-savy. So far, I really love this charger.

...that this charger (La Crosse Technology BC-9009) will not charge if batteries are depleted below 0.9V. Found this out when I tried to recharged a set of AAA which had been "all used up" and the charger display showed "null". The solution, according to the user manual, is to buy a cheaper charger and use it to get the batteries kick-started above 0.9V and then use the BC-9009 to complete the charging. Much upset about this. Was there something in the description on Amazon about this undervoltage limit that I missed? So, buyer beware!

I bought this La Crosse charger about 4 years ago. I'm sure it's been upgraded by now but I have not had any issues with my old one. I will definately buy another one if this one ever stops working.
