Customer rating is 5 of 5  Mixer Melee   2010-03-17
By G. Nelson (WY)
I haven't done a huge amount of work with my mixer...but so far so good! I bought this because I am getting into the cake business, and I needed a mixer that could stand up to mixing all of the icings. So, if it passes that test, it will be a five star for sure.

I think this is a great mixer. It is big enough yet will do small jobs also.
Customer rating is 2 of 5  Defective Gearbox Housing: Kitchenaid no longer stands behind   2010-03-16
By L. Zeimetz (Illinois)
I too, had the same issue with the plastic transmission housing cracking on the mixer. Upon reading the review that Kitchenaid will send out a replacement all metal housing, I contacted customer service via "live chat". I know the previous review is from 2006 but sadly, policy has changed in 2010 and I was even told that that email could not have come from them (I shortened to keep review space constraint):

Posted from "Live Chat" between myself and "Erin M."

Erin M: Thank you for contacting KitchenAid! My name is Erin M. I will be with you momentarily.
L.Zeimetz: ok
Erin M: Thank you again for contacting Kitchen Aid Ms. Ziemetz. Unfortunately, this is not a part that we supply. What state do you live in? We can provide you with some references.
L.Zeimetz: I live in IL. I tried to find a replacement for it and I couldn't find one. I tried to purchase a similar part and it didn't fit. Further research showed this was a common problem with kitchenaids being that the gears were metal but the housing was plastic. So, you are saying that you no longer make these parts?
Erin M: No. We just do not supply them. We have three contacts: (deleted)
L. Zeimetz: There is a review posted on Amazon.com that specifically states and posts an email direct from Kitchenaid that they do. Has a policy changed?
Erin M: I am not sure what you are asking? They have may links for Kitchen Aid from the site.
L. Zeimetz: It was a review about the kitchenaid stand mixer and there is a discussion posted about how these particular models had a defective plastic transmission housing. The reviewer said that he contacted kitchenaid and they sent him a metal replacement housing and then also indicated that the new models hae all metal gear housings. I'm wanting to know if this guy is not correct or if your policy has changed regarding sending out the replacement metal gear housing.
Erin M: This is not a policy that Kitchen Aid has. Unfortunately that site is not affiliated with Kitchen Aid. I am not sure where that information came from. Our warranty is for replacement of the entire unit. We do not send repair parts for stand mixers.
L. Zeimetz: here's the email (copied email from previous reviewer):
Erin M: I have seen this same positing before. It is not from us.
L. Zeimetz: ok. Too bad. Not looking to spend hundreds of dollars to fix this.
L. Zeimetz: thanks for your time.
Erin M: It has been a pleasure assisting you today. Thank you again for contacting Kitchen Aid. We appreciate and value your business. If you have any further concerns, please do not hesitate to contact Kitchen Aid again.
L. Zeimetz: I however, WILL post this on Amazon to recitfy that other person's error.
Erin M has disconnected.
Customer rating is 5 of 5  Great mixer!   2010-03-15

Have used this mixer many times for a variety of things in less than a month. The dough hood is great for making breads, the texture turns out wonderful! The whisk makes whipped cream fast and easy. The regular beater is great for cookies. Highly recommended!
Customer rating is 4 of 5  Kitchenaid 6qt   2010-03-12
By Vernon Rosario II (Los Angeles)
I decided to step up from the tilt top 4 qt kitchenaid I'd had for 15 years, since I've been baking bread regularly and was worried about overtaxing the motor. I have to admit I'm ambivalent about this monster, although it was highest rated by Cooks Illustrated.
It's a lot noisier, and seems to be struggling more kneading 6 cups of flour that the old one. There's even a burning smell. It's not as convenient to access as the tilt head. Given it's weight it's more of a bother to move around on the counter. And it really can't whip up small quantities--like 1-2 egg whites, despite adjusting the clearance. We'll see how I grow into it.
